This year – as in previous years – I will be taking photographs of Southend Half Marathon on Sunday 9th July on behalf of the event organisers Havens Hospices. As in previous years I will be doing this on a voluntary basis to support a very worthwhile local charity.
Unlike previous years I will be a little more organised! I plan to have a gazebo as a base – although I won’t spend much time in it – where I will display samples of what people can expect if they chose to buy photos after the event. A proportion of the cost of every print purchased will go to Havens. All the shots I take will be available for free as lo-res for social media only use.
On the basis that the run starts at 9am I will be there nice and early and plan that between 8am and 8.45am I will be located somewhere in the corner of the event village to take group or individual photos of anyone/groups who would like such a photo – so plan your timings to suit if that is you!
I will be shooting alone this year which is quite an ask for such a big event but I should have it covered. I plan to shoot the mass start then hot foot (or bike) it down the course to around the 3 mile mark to catch you all passing by before hot tailing back to the finish to catch the winners return and then everyone else cross the finish.
I cannot guarantee that I will get everyone but I will try my best. I am not a professional events photography outfit but a keen amateur tog who likes to support local charities. So don’t complain if I don’t snap you!

Below is a couple of samples of the prints that I will produce for people. Prices to be confirmed but likely to be around £6.00 for an 8″ x 6″ and £15.00 for a 16″ x 12″ print only in a cello sleeve ready for framing. Probably 30% of price to go to Havens.
