We've just spent a few days with my parents at their home in Gloucestershire which was very nice. While there I was able to take some photos of an unusual but regular visitor to their garden - an Albino Backbird. He was quite shy so I could only get photos through the double glazing but …
Basildon parkrun #37
Yesterday (12 December) I was volunteer photographer again at Basildon parkrun. I hadn't intended to be out photographing parkruns with Christmas approaching and an evening out to see Bombay Bicycle Club but they were in need of someone plus they were going to be running in the reverse direction for the first time so I decided …
Palace Theatre Tour
A fortuitous tweet this morning alerted me to the fact that our local theatre - literally at the top of our road - was having an open day today. Well this was an opportunity not to be missed so I hot-footed it up to see what I could see and photograph. We have seen a …
Southend Egret
Yesterday I was supposed to photographing the inaugural Brentwood parkrun however a nasty RTA in Southend mean't that I was held up so long that I didn't get there (sorry again guys). I returned home in a bit of a foul mood and decided as I had all my warm clothes on and my gear all …
Tristan Mackay – Out Along The Wire
I've been meaning to give a shout out to Tristan Mackay. He was the support act for The South when they played at the Southend Palace Theatre a few weeks ago. Tristan is a singer songwriter who turned to busking during university to help pay the bills. This continued when he started work but he …

Goldfrapp. Royal Albert Hall. 18 November 2014
Saw Goldfrapp perform at the Royal Albert Hall last night. Nothing I write will be able to describe how utterly brilliant the gig was. Alison's voice is sublime. Combined with the band and the orchestra the overall effect was captivating, mesmerising, and every other ing I can think of. I had a great seat in …

Southend Fireworks – The sequel
Last weekend I had a go at photographing the fireworks on Southend seafront. It was fun and spurred me to try again and improve from the lessons learned. You can read about that experience here. So I head down again this evening and had another go. The weather was much better this evening - dry and …
